About Inner View Art Therapy
Welcome! My name is Philippa Montier and I'm the principal Art Therapist.
I work with people who experience anxiety, depression and past trauma, and people who are seeking to practice self-care and self-compassion through art therapy. I have worked with people with lived experience of mental illness in public and private hospital and community mental health settings. My approach recognises that every person has unique strengths, experiences and challenges, and I offer people the opportunity to engage in art-making and experience the healing power of their innate creativity. |

My healing journey with art
My understanding of the power of art to enable deep healing began when I was studying fine art as a mature-age student. We were given the theme of "transformation" for an assignment, and I decided to look at my recovery from post-natal depression.
In the process of making the artwork, I thought deeply about the experience of sliding, surviving, climbing out and eventually thriving after recovery. The artwork was a struggle as I learnt about new materials and methods. And in the process I expressed all that I'd gone through and acknowledged how far I'd come with support and kindness from those around me. Art can be transformative, and that artwork holds a special place in my heart. I began to realise how art can make a difference for people and I went on to study art therapy in depth and begin my work as an art therapist. I continue to use art making for my own wellbeing, and the people I work with in therapy continue to inspire me with their courage and creativity. |
